Staying Informed: My Top 5 Platforms For Receiving Todays News

In todays world, social media is the main source of where people get there news. There are now so many different platforms out there now that everyone can use whatever they like best. All the different options allow for everyone of all ages to be able to have easy access to what's out there.

Instagram- I receive my news from Instagram because I follow CNN. I like seeing my news this way because Instagram is an app I use daily and is very easy for me to use. By following CNN I can see the latest news updates but the shortened version so I can still learn but it stays short and sweet. I could also follow other top news sites like FoxNews or ABC News. I also have an interest in celebrity's so I also follow People magazine to gain information on what's going on in that world as well. This is a great way to see updates on peoples daily lives, with everyone uploading photos on what they are doing.

TikTok-  I also enjoy receiving my news from TikTok as well. Even though I do not follow any news accounts on TikTok. The app has this feature called a "For You" page where a bunch of different videos pop up from accounts that you don't follow. I think this is helpful because the latest talks and trends always pop up so you can see what is going on. This feature helped me when I was away over the summer to keep up with all the latest events that were happening back home in the United States.

Television- Receiving my news from watching television is the way I have always remembered. For as long as I can remember before and after dinner I would always be doing my homework at the kitchen table and someone in my house would be watching the channel 5 news. This is where I used to find out if school was canceled due to snow or current events that were happening. I am a visual learner so watching the news television station really helped and allowed me to see and understand what was going on in the world a lot better than reading it.

Facebook- Facebook is a platform that I use on the daily as just another social media app. With my generation, Facebook is not very common. It is a platform mostly used by people our parents age. I personally use it to keep in touch with my family that lives either in Europe or South Africa. With Facebooks Messenger platform which allows you to text or video chat with anyone anywhere in the world. It allows me to stay in contact with family and friends without having to use international calling which can be pretty pricey. I also follow several Greek news platforms on Facebook  which allows me to read articles on what is going on where my family is from. I would recommend Facebook to all who enjoy communicating with people from other countries or enjoy receiving news updates in a more summarized version.

LinkedIn- As a business student I use LinkedIn to stay up to date on the latest news in the corporate business world. I enjoy seeing companies latest updates on what they are doing and what projects they are completing. This is a different aspect of the news that you cannot get on your local TV station. That is what makes LinkedIn so great, it allows for business professionals to share news. I recommend this platform to anyone in the business world who wants to keep up with job offers or companies. It is also a great way to have a "digital" resume. This shows potential employers your background before going into the interview. Overall, I think LinkedIn is a great platform to use for receiving news in the business community.
